Prominent Tracy OB/Gyns Join Gould Medical Group

Sutter Gould Medical Foundation to Assume Office Operations

    January 2, 2007

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

TRACY – Sutter Gould Medical Foundation (SGMF) today announced that two prominent Tracy physicians and one certified nurse midwife have completed an agreement to join Gould Medical Group, one of the area’s largest medical groups and a long-time leader in providing quality health care services in the Central Valley.

The agreement became effective January 1, 2007.

The providers, Steven Ahn, M.D., Poonamalee Malika, M.D., and Vivian Cefalo, CNM, will continue to see patients in their current facility at 1407 N. Tracy Boulevard, near Sutter Tracy Community Hospital. The office operations will be assumed by SGMF, a not-for-profit organization established in 1986. SGMF provides administrative support, management services, and medical staff support over 200 physicians in the Central Valley, freeing doctors to focus more time on patient care.

“We are excited to have these providers join us,” said James Conforti, SGMF’s chief executive officer. “Dr. Ahn and Dr. Malika have practiced in Tracy for over 25 years, and are an integral part of the community. Vivian Cefalo’s position as a certified nurse midwife augments the full-range of obstetric services we can offer our patients,” he added. “Their experience, expertise and community involvement enhances the health care services we can offer the local community.”

SGMF operates another care center in Tracy, at 2151 W. Grant Line Road. That care center opened in 1998 and houses seven Gould primary care physicians - practicing pediatrics, internal medicine and family medicine.

“We look forward to this association with Sutter Gould, because it will enable us to work closely with our fellow Gould physicians, collaborate with other professionals throughout the Sutter Health system, and expand our services as the community grows,” said Dr. Ahn.

“Our patients will further benefit from the services and technology for which Sutter Gould is known throughout the valley.”

That technology includes the electronic health record, providing Gould physicians’ immediate access to a patient’s medical history and immediate review of results from diagnostic tests. It also includes PACS, a filmless picture archiving and communications system that allows Gould radiologists to share digital images and diagnoses electronically between locations.

SGMF operates care centers throughout San Joaquin and Stanislaus Counties. SGMF is an affiliate of Sutter Health, one of the nation’s leading not-for-profit networks of community health care providers, provides health care services to the residents of more than 100 Northern California communities. Sutter Health supports 26 locally operated acute care hospitals, as well as physician training programs, medical research facilities, home health, hospice and occupational health services.
